First Indictment Handed Down in Steubenville Case

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio grand jury investigating whether other laws were broken in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl by two high school football players last year has issued its first indictment, charging a school employee with interfering with a criminal matter.

The indictment announced Monday by Attorney General Mike DeWine charges William Rhinaman with tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, obstructing official business and perjury.

Rhinaman, of Mingo Junction, was arrested Monday afternoon after the charges from Friday’s indictment were made formal, DeWine said. Rhinaman, 53, was scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.

The $64 million question is: at whose behest did Rhinaman delete the data?

The incident gets seamier with each revelation. How the Superintendent and Coach Reno are still employed is beyond belief…

And in bizarro world, Stranny rides in to rescue the ShrewCrew’s day by posting a blog saying this indictment may not have a thing to do with this case. And, for those wondering, yes he is still green with envy with Prinnie

Just shows you how stupid Stranny is. The Grand Jury would not hand down an indictment for something not related to the case they are investigating. Funny how he lawyer friends didn’t tell him that and let him look like a fool. Course looking like a fool comes easy for him.

Hard to imagine a Director of Technology would take it upon himself to delete anything. In many districts this position is a district administrator because of access to so many confidential items. I’ve seen him referred to as both an administrator and a tech employee.

The job title is potentially significant primarily to his chain of command. Does he report directly to the superintendent? Is he part of the central administration for the district?

Mature, intelligent adults do not willingly break the law for no reason. Given the remote possibility he did not realize what he was specifically deleting, he sure as hell knew he was lying. He sure as hell knew once word broke that he was deleting potential evidence. I would imagine it possibly framed in terms of protecting the school or individuals.

If he did happen to act on his own with no encouragement or directive, it was likely to protect himself or someone close. It would have to be someone he cared about.

I’ve worked with Tech people in districts who have physically removed hardware and locked it in a safe just because it MIGHT hold information that MIGHT be required down the line. Server records are meticulously maintained. That is how Tech Depts. function. They work hand in glove with the Superintendent and Legal Depts.

SIDEBAR, FUNNY: One time (in the infancy stages of internet in schools) I was researching for a Superintendent and was googling my little fingers to the bone when I fumbled onto a “naughty” site. I flew into tech to report the site and why it would appear on my log. I really didn’t want it surfacing down the road without explanation! (I was greeted with laughter, but they documented it.)

LOL I had that happen to me more times than I wish to speak. We looking into a scam once and I ended up finding the guy on a gay porn site! He had uploaded videos, one of which was his friend standing outside his house on the back porch (in broad daylight) jerking off while looking in the house. Yes I had to watch the video because this guy and his partner had recently adopted 2 young children (2 – 4 years old at the time) and this video was created at the time the kids would of been home. End results, kids were removed from the home and the adoption was voided. Good results for the kids but for me, I will never be able to look at an orange thong again. I’m scarred for life. Oh and my husband had been told that when I die, burn the laptop!!! LOL

Hello All- New to the site, but have been researching and reading about this case all morning. Question- can anyone link or clarify a few things?

Frank Bruzzese – whats his status and connection to case?
Stranaham – Who is he? What excatly is his connection to the case?
On Prosecutor Jane Hanlin – who is she, connection to case, and anything else I may read on her?

Im sorry if any of this is right in front of my face…

I am deeply affected by this case, being a 27 year old NYC native with a backround in forensic psychology, I cant believe this case didnt make the rounds to me sooner.

Has anybody seen the comparisons between this case and Daisy Coleman of Mayerville?

Hi Nancy and welcome. To answer your questions:

Frank Bruzzese – Is an Assistant County Prosecutor for Jefferson County, also a partner in the lawfirm of Bruzzese & Calabria Jane Hanlin, Jefferson County Prosecutor is also employed by his firm. I believe she’s a partner.
Stranaham – Stranahan is a blogger who was allegedly paid by the coaches, wives, assistant prosecutor and/or City of Steubenville to blog the “truth”. Info can be found here regarding the city’s endorsement: http://slightlyopinionated.com/the-city-of-steubenville-endorses-pornographer/
On Prosecutor Jane Hanlin – Her connection to the case is that her son is friends with the kids involved, he was alleged to have been at one of the parties that night, and is alleged to have been at the party that the April rape occurred at. Hanlin has also been in the hot seat by the community for using her position as a prosecutor to give testimony on behalf of Branko Busick, a felon. More at these links:
